Leadership @ Resolve Marine

An entrepreneur at heart and hands-on leader, Joseph Farrell Jr. has overseen thousands of salvage and emergency response jobs worldwide and is the Founder of Resolve Marine. He also leads the Mission Resolve Foundation that supports humanitarian aid and civic engagement.

A U.S Coast Guard and U.S. Navy veteran, Farrell acquired his first tug THE RESOLVE and served as captain and owner as he launched his marine salvage operation in Florida and the Caribbean in the early '80s. As the company's reputation grew for completing challenging assignments, Resolve Marine added maritime emergency response capabilities. And when the USCG enacted the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90) changing the regulatory environment for vessels transiting U.S. and U.S. Territory waters, Resolve Marine launched Salvage and Marine Firefighting (SMFF), regulatory compliance services and established a maritime firefighting training center.

Farrell began his career in the U.S Coast Guard, attended U.S. Navy diver school, and was assigned to a USCG Icebreaker as a ship's diver and ship engineer. He volunteered and served in Vietnam as an explosives advisor in charge offloading munition ships. After military service, he served as a civilian diver recovering U.S. war game and test torpedoes. While a chief engineer on an ocean-going salvage tug, he secured a laid-up vessel and found salvage work. He then purchased the vessel and named it RESOLVE because he had resolved what he wanted to do with his life. He established Resolve Marine as a company in 1984.

Resolve Marine has geographically expanded operations, facilities and personnel worldwide and today is a global leader in emergency response and vessel salvage operations.
