OS-35

Southern Europe | Gibraltar

Bulk carrier OS-35, while manoeuvring to exit the Port of Gibraltar, came in contact with the Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier Adam LNG. The collision caused flooding of the forward holds 2 and 3. The Port Authority directed OS 35 to the Eastside of the port in order to ensure it could be beached and in that way try to minimize as much as possible risk of the vessel sinking and to secure the lives of the mariners on board.

Resolve Marine was engaged under LOF SCOPIC to patch and refloat the vessel. Though, during the first evening onboard, the vessel broke it's back in between holds 2 and 3 in way of the damage. Due to the excessive damage, a refloat seemed unlikely, priority was shifted to the removal of remaining pollutants/fuels. Upon completion of the fuel removal and in agreement with the Captain of the Port the vessel was intentionally flooded. The vessel was scuttled intentionally to prevent the vessel from shifting during inclement weather. It was feared that the vessel could shift closer to the beach or possibly breakup, spreading flotsam along the adjacent beach.

After the scuttling operation, Resolve Marine transitioned to a caretaking role. The focus was to mitigate and clean any residual pollution emanating from the vessel and removing the flotsam from the accommodations house. Resolve Marine was released from the project when another contractor was mobilized to conduct the wreck removal.
