Bulk Carrier Collision

Off the northern coast | Dominican Republic

Resolve Marine to the forward starboard of a large ship
A cargo ship was involved in a collision incident with a reefer vessel.  The fully loaded 557-ft bulker, sustained severe damage to the engine room and accommodations. Extensive damage occurred to the side shell of the engine room and accommodation block, leading to partial flooding of the engine room. The damage extended from 3 meters above the keel and reached both forward and aft.

The vessel remained stable, with all cargo holds intact. The vessel owners enlisted the assistance of Resolve Marine, as the vessel was in the care of two 30+ bollard pull tugs off the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. However, the on-scene and in-tow salvors faced challenges in obtaining port clearance at any port for vessel refuge. Consequently, Resolve Marine was contracted to provide further assistance. Resolve Marine took over the tow, ensuring port clearance to Port Au Prince. The salvage operations included pollution mitigation, casualty assessment, lightering, dewatering of the engine room, temporary repairs, and towing to the owner's designated destination upon operation completion.

Following ship-to-ship lightering of the full grain load, the Resolve Marine team dewatered the ship and conducted extensive repairs in preparation for the subsequent tow to port. Resolve Marine played a key role in obtaining "Official Port of Refuge" clearance at Port au Prince and continued with the necessary repairs for the final tow.
