A 30.5m (100’) crane-barge capsized onto its side at a 1070 list adjacent to a highly-traveled port channel. With three fuel tanks holding 8000 gallons, the refloat required extensive engineering, innovative lightering and thorough debris removal. Teams immediately got to work stabilizing the barge and the adjacent area. Using Resolve’s patented “HOT TAP” system, divers were able to transfer fuel to shore tanks without incident, as other teams separated the ringing crane, and attached parbuckling chains, ultimately refloating the semi-capsized barge. To reduce the impact on the marine environment, divers cleaned the seabed of any remaining debris. The lightering and refloat was a coordinated success between response, engineering and local dive teams.
