Tanto Hari

Surabaya Port | Indonesia

A sinking boat with the bottom of the hull facing up out of the water
The container vessel M.V. “Tanto Hari” sank due to a collision with the M.V. “Sirius” after sustaining a breach on her port side near midships. Resolve Marine was given the job to refloat and deliver the wreck under BIMCO WRECK HIRE 2010 Contract. The wreck's position was in the busy shipping channel to Surabaya port, the worksite was affected by wind and strong tidal currents. The stern of the wreck was grounded at a water depth of 25m. The underwater operations were also affected by low visibility due to high silt content at the work site.

The casualty was refloated by utilizing a combination of introduced air and external lift. Blowing air into the wing tanks and engine room of the casualty created additional buoyancy which reduced the grounding force. However, due to the quantity of mud in the engine room and other compartments, it was necessary to apply additional external lifting force to raise the stern from the seabed. Resolve Marine used its Shearleg Crane Barge (RMG 500) and Strand jacks installed on a Flat Top Barge (Harrier) to lift the casualty off the ground in capsized position. A total of 800 tons of external lifting force were applied. Subsequently hanging hatch covers were lifted and secured followed by the removal of mud from the Engine room to achieve the desired draft for transit in the Surabaya Channel.
