The M/V ZIM KINGSTON experienced severe weather during her transit of the Pacific Ocean
The M/V ZIM KINGSTON experienced severe weather during her transit of the Pacific Ocean which resulted in the collapse of three container stacks and an estimated 109 containers lost to the sea. The vessel sought refuge and anchored in the vicinity of Victoria Canada to assess the damage.

A fire was noticed by the crew at the location of the collapsed container stacks of Bay 14. This fire was determined to have originated in two containers laden with Class 4.2 cargo.

Resolve Marine was activated and mobilized three FiFi tugs, a firefighting team based in Seattle, and equipment from Seattle / San Francisco response depots (OPA 90 depots). The fire was successfully declared under control. The firefighting team then commenced overhaul of the hot spots, continued an air monitoring program, and set fire watches for the vessel.

Cargo stabilization and preparation efforts were completed, and the vessel was cleared to transit to DP World in Nanaimo Canada for discharge of the damaged container stacks. This discharge completed utilizing rope access climbers and a combination of cranes, spreader bars, and rigging.
