Fish Processing Vessel Fire

Tacoma, WA | United States

In the spring of 2023, Resolve Marine received notification of a fire onboard the Kodiak Enterprise, a fish processing vessel docked at a major seafood processing facility in Tacoma, Washington, USA. Our Pacific Northwest facility manager responded immediately, followed by the firefighting team lead and naval architects, to begin site assessment. Following the arrival of a full firefighting team, a salvage master, and other support crew, our team coordinated with both Tacoma and Seattle fire departments to begin the process of cooling the exterior hull and dewatering to maintain vessel stability.
Overnight, the team and equipment moved to respond, coordinating with the command center and local authorities, including the USCG, Washington State Department of Ecology, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Considerable safety and environmental measures were also taken.
The fire was declared extinguished several days later. The team then worked with personnel of the shipowner to create a safe workspace and remove the remaining water. Additional work included performing a thorough dive inspection of the hull and debunking of the remaining fuel onboard.
