Port Hedland Australia Salvage Coverage

Setting the Industry Standard for Port Hedland Salvage Preparedness

Guidance for Vessel Owners, Operators, and Managers
As global maritime regulations continue to evolve, ports are placing increased emphasis on vessel-specific salvage preparedness. The Port of Port Hedland is at the forefront of this shift, introducing requirements that directly impact how vessels prepare for and respond to marine casualties. Recognized as a recommended international salvor within the Port Hedland Salvage Response Plan, Resolve Marine is uniquely positioned to support clients in understanding and meeting these requirements, while strengthening overall emergency response readiness worldwide.

Understanding the Latest Port Hedland Requirements
In February 2026, Pilbara Ports issued Marine Safety Bulletin 01/26, introducing the Port Hedland Salvage Response Plan (SRP) and associated vessel preparedness expectations. These requirements are designed to ensure that vessels:
  • Are prepared to support salvage operations in port waters
  • Integrate seamlessly with port-led emergency response frameworks
  • Can rapidly provide critical technical and operational data in the early stages of an incident
Effective August 1, 2026, all vessels 120,000 DWT or greater must have a ship salvage preparedness arrangements in place prior to arrival at Port Hedland. Vessels below this threshold are also expected to maintain preparedness arrangements proportionate to their operational risk.

What is a Ship Salvage Plan?
As defined by The Port of Port Hedland, a Ship Salvage Plan is a vessel-specific document that outlines:
  • Emergency response actions in the event of a casualty
  • Command structure and communication protocols
  • Technical data required for salvage decision-making
  • Interfaces with port authorities, salvors, and insurers
While requirements are clearly defined at a high level, effective compliance depends on how these elements are structured, integrated, and operationalized, particularly in the first hours of a casualty response.
