The Freyja, a 58-foot fishing vessel, grounded on the beachfront in Driftwood Bay (near Dutch Harbor), Alaska. Onshore, the vessel broke into three main pieces that were partially submerged with debris scattered along the shoreline.

Resolve Marine was contracted to remove the wreck from the beaches including clearing lose debris along the beach as well as underwater work. Utilizing Resolve Marine’s MAKUSHIN BAY response tug, teams were able to cut the Freyja into sections that were loaded on the MAKUSHIN BAY’s back deck. Inclement weather hindered removal processes periodically interrupting pulling operations and onshore activities but did not interrupt divers who were able to continue debris collection from underwater.

As Freyja’s keel, prop, and shaft sections were lifted from the water, beach debris was removed with underwater surveys confirming the site completely cleared. The MAKUSHIN BAY returned the salvaged debris to Dutch Harbor where the materials were prepared for safe disposal.
