A highly respected veteran Senior Salvage Master, Capt. Sloane has had an illustrious career for over 40 years. He began his career at the South African Merchant Shipping Company, SAFMARIN, transferring to its salvage division after the Castello del Belver taker fire in 1983; the company was subsequently bought by SMIT Salvage in 1997. Thereafter he worked for Svitzer Africa and joined Resolve Marine in 2015 as Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East. During his tenure at Resolve Marine, he led and joined salvage teams on projects in the Philippines, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, and Chile. He was also deployed on emergency response hurricane relief teams in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and around Africa.

Prior to his term as president, he served on ISU’s leadership team and as a member of the executive committee. He will continue as an executive committee member until December 2023.
Commenting on Captain Sloane’s retirement, Joseph Farrell III, Deputy-CEO and COO said, “Nick's deep understanding of the complex facets of salvage operations has been invaluable. He has "seen it all" and his ability to pinpoint the subtleties that determine the success or failure of a salvage job both operationally and commercially has made his leadership both at Resolve Marine and the ISU incredibly impactful.”
Farrell, continued, “I am personally grateful for the guidance and insights I've received from Nick since my early days in the industry. He was someone I would seek advice from, even before coming to Resolve Marine. I am very appreciative of the time he spent with us and wish him the best moving forward. It has always been a privilege working with him.”
