Fuel Removal, Cargo Vessel
Kupang, Indonesia | Indonesia

A cargo vessel was involved in a collision in Kupang, Indonesia, which resulted in a loss of watertight integrity, eventually causing the vessel to capsize and sink along the coast. There was 70 cubic meters of hydrocarbons reported in 15 tanks located in the engine room. The vessel was sitting on the starboard side shell, on a slope with the aft end in approximately 40 meters of water. Resolve Marine was appointed by the P&I club and their consultants to assist in the recovery of the oils in the engine room tanks using the hot tap method.
A supply tug was outfitted in Batam, Indonesia with the necessary dive and oil removal equipment mobilized from Resolve Marine’s depot in Singapore. All 15 tanks were hot tapped and their contents pumped out and stored in ISO tanks onboard the supply tug. The oil removal scope in the tanks amounted to approximately 59 cubic meters successfully recovered without any spills or environmental damage. This quantity includes the additional scope requested by the consultants in way of hot tapping the engine room space, an engine room void tank and the port side meeting room.
Upon completion of the project, the supply tug returned back to Batam for demobilization and offloading the ISO tanks for disposal in a local certified disposal facility.
