Oil Spill

A dredger was involved in an allision with bunker barge resulting in an oil spill of approximately 400 metric tons of heavy fuel oil. The spilled oils ended up mostly along the south and east coast of Singapore, including the island of Sentosa and the marinas along the southern coast. Various beaches, jetties as well as fish farms along the Southern Islands were also contaminated.

Resolve Marine was appointed by the P&I Club and their consultants to assist in the recovery of the floating oils and subsequently clean up the various beaches and structures along the Southern Islands, and then the entire 16 kilometer stretch of the east coast beach, including the non-public beaches on the southern tip of Singapore.

The recovery and cleaning operation was divided into three phases: manual recovery of oils through scooping/skimming, high volume low pressure flushing of beaches and structural revetments, and high pressure washing of the jetties, rock bunds and floating structures.

Resolve Marine worked closely with several government entities including the appointed consultants as well as marine oil spill nonprofit ITOPF on the cleaning methods and sign off by the appropriate government stakeholders.

The recovery and cleaning operation was successfully completed ahead of the three-month timeline, where approximately 500 metric tons of oily debris and waste was recovered and safely disposed.
